An Album of New Saxophone and Organ Music
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Samuel Gaskin. Along with Joshua Bryant (adjunct professor of saxophone at Trinity University and San Antonio College), we are planning an album of contemporary music for the tenor saxophone and pipe organ by American composers.
We have also invited the Aruna Quartet (Grand Prize winners of the 2019 Fischoff Competition) to be featured on William Albright's "Valley of Fire," for saxophone quartet and organ.
The recording is planned for January 2021 at the historic St. Mark's Episcopal Church in downtown San Antonio with audio engineer Ioannis Andriotis.

“Being able to perform and commission new works for the saxophone, specifically the tenor saxophone, is a passion of mine. The saxophone and the organ are alike in that many people don’t fully realize the capabilities of the instruments, often due to preconceived notions, and working with Samuel to push those boundaries and conceptions has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I believe we’re just scratching the surface of possibilities with this album, and I’m excited for the future of this ensemble.” —Josh
"For me, playing with Josh has been a great opportunity to understand the perspective of a corner of the music world I didn't know before. With Josh, the process of rehearsing, performing, and eventually composing and improvising together have been opportunities for musical growth. To record an album of compelling new American repertoire—at times soothing, at times challenging—feels like a fitting souvenir. " —Samuel
