I left Afghanistan for the final time in 2014. after working on and off from 1988 with Afghan programs in Pakistan with the refugees and in Afghanistan with non-profits, the US government, and UNHCR. Near the very beginning, I supervised an Afghan who is one of the hardest-working and smartest people I've ever met, and we became close friends. He worked his way up over the years to being in charge of a US-funded project that covered half of Afghanistan. When the US withdrew in 2021, he and his very large family got stuck there. Even before the US withdrew, the Taliban were hunting him. He is both po (book-smart in Pashto) and zeerak (street-smart), and that is why he has survived until now.
FINALLY, the US government asked to go to Islamabad, Pakistan to have his interview for his Special Immigrant Visa (SIV). They have asked him to stay while the processing takes place. The entire family needs to be there the whole time, and the costs for Pakistani visas, travel to Pakistan, rent, food, SIV, plane tickets, etc., are outrageous. Your support will assist the deserving Afghan family to come to the US and safety! For all he has done for us, we can do this for him! Thanks for your generous support!
