Hey Everyone! It’s time for a GIVEAWAY!
My name is Brandon Midkiff. For those that I have not had the pleasure of meeting, I am the owner of BIG FISH AC & Heating, LLC. out of Lumberton, Tx. First I would like to give some details on the giveaway that I will be sponsoring and then I would like to give some insight as to why I am doing it.
I would like to donate a complete system change out. Equipment, labor, materials, EVERYTHING! It will be a new 14 SEER R-410a system. Up to 5 ton. Gas or electric heat. Closet or attic. Does not matter! I will travel ANYWHERE in the beautiful state of TEXAS. This is anywhere from a $5,000 to around $8,000 value. The system will come with a 10 year manufacturer’s warranty. If you are not in the need of a system change out, I can offer maintenance services or you may choose someone who you know is in need of a new system. I am doing this both to raise money for my sister, whose situation will be discussed further down in this post, and also to provide someone with a Christmas gift of a new central AC and heat system. How to enter will be explained later on. Gotta keep you reading somehow!
So now some insight as to why I am sponsoring this giveaway.
Those that are close to me may, or may not, know that my sister, Amy, has had a tough year. It is not something that is openly discussed with others; however, I hope this post/giveaway sheds some light on what 2016 held for my family, but more specifically my sister, Amy. We know that the good Lord has blessed us throughout the years and regardless of what 2016 held for us, we know that it is all in God’s plan.
Amy was in an environment that exposed her to toxic mold for a period of time. During this time, everyone, including doctors, were oblivious as to what it was that was causing her symptoms. After multiple (5+) trips to emergency rooms, physicians’ offices, allergy specialists, and her diabetic doctor, the mold was finally discovered. However, the amount of time that she spent in that environment had already taken a significant toll on her body. After an extensive search, a doctor that was capable of treating her was finally located in Dallas, Tx. Roughly 4.5 hours away from friends and family. Due to the distance from home, and for who knows what other reason, insurance is declining any compensation for treatment she has had to receive while in Dallas. My mom had to leave her job in order to be with Amy while she underwent such extensive treatment. On September 18th, 2016 my mom and sister packed up enough supplies and clothing for 3 weeks of treatment. The 3 week treatment estimate has turned into a 3-4 month schedule instead. Instead of coming home after 3 weeks, they remained there until Thanksgiving weekend when the doctor allowed her to return home to see family only to return back the following Monday morning. The hope is that she will be able to return home after the first of the year and we are praying that this holds true. However, it is all in God’s timing.
Amy begins her day at the doctor undergoing hyperbaric oxygen treatment for 60-90 minutes, which costs $175/hour. As of today (12/12/2016) she has spent 102 hours in the “H-BOT Bubble” as my mom and sister call it. That totals up to roughly $17,850. After H-BOT, she undergoes rigorous allergy testing. The tests cost roughly $25 each. She has endured 75 of these tests for a total of about $1,875. It is unknown whether she will have no reaction, some reaction, or more commonly a severe reaction at the time of each allergy testing appointment. After testing they return back to H-BOT where my sister has to sit in the bubble for another 60-90 minutes. She has incurred roughly $2,700 in mycotoxin tests, $675 in medicine cost, and another $2,100 in miscellaneous doctor expenses. I mentioned that they were 4.5 hours away from home, right? Well, with this come hotel expenses. At just under $100 per day, $7,550 has been incurred in hotel cost along with around $150 in laundry cost. Total all of this up and it comes out to just under $33,000.00
She has developed multiple food allergies following her exposure to toxic mold. So many in fact, she has a strict diet that she must follow which repeats every 5th day.
Day 1: Turkey, Lima Beans, Watermelon
Day 2: Pork, Cauliflower, Apple, Blueberries
Day 3: Buffalo, Plantains, Green Beans, Cantaloupe
Day 4: Venison, Carrots, Butternut Squash
That’s it. Not alterations to the meal regimen whatsoever.
All of my sister’s personal items and property, regardless of cost and/or sentimental value, that was exposed in the mold environment had to be disposed of properly. Anything that those objects had come in contact with after returning home also had to be disposed of. With that being said, their house has essentially been gutted. Furniture, bedding, arts and crafts, clothes, pictures, everything thrown out.
I, along with many other family members, have exhausted all resources in order to help my mom and sister with costs incurred this year; however, no one was prepared for what 2016 held. My mom is the strongest person I know and she would never ask for help from anyone. However, I would like to take it upon myself to ask for this help. While the giveaway is totally free, I pray that their story reaches out and touches your heart to give if capable. If not, I pray that this story serves as a lesson learned to always cherish time spent with family. To be happy with what cards God has dealt you, regardless of the hand. I know that 2016 sure has taught me these lessons along with many others.
Please donate and help to ensure that Amy continues receiving the treatment necessary to return home to family, friends, and college in an attempt to live a normal life again.
So now I guess you are wondering how to enter your name into this giveaway. It is probably not an entry submission process that you are used to seeing. Rather than make you give me all of your contact info, rather than make you purchase any services, rather than make you jump through hoops in order to be entered into the giveaway, I would simply like you to take the time out of your day to comment on my Company’s facebook post with kind words for Amy. The page URL is www.facebook.com/bigfishac
Scroll down the page until you find my post with this GoFundMe link and info and drop a comment with kind words and/or prayers for Amy. I believe that kind words will give her something to look forward to while 4.5 hours away from home and undergoing such miserably extensive treatments and testing. I know that I have missed my Mom and Sister dearly since they left for Dallas back in early September while I remained home and continued living an otherwise normal life. I cannot imagine being away from all of my friends, all of my family, with really nothing to look forward to on a day to day basis. While the donations will be greatly appreciated and needed, kind words and prayers that she can read will also have an immediate benefit towards her attitude and overall outlook while she continues her treatment in Dallas.
I hope that you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Years!
The winner will be selected on my Sister’s 21st birthday on March 15th, 2017. I will post a video on my company Facebook page of the drawing where my sister will select the winner from a basket that contains all of the entries along with their comments to serve as keepsakes for her. This will provide enough time for the change out to be scheduled and performed prior to the hot Texas Summer months. Again, the page is www.facebook.com/bigfishac
If you are capable and willing to give it would be greatly, greatly appreciated!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, Share this page along with the facebook post with all of your family and friends!
God Bless!!
