Amy's Fire Recovery
Donation protected
At 9:30 this morning, my daughter Amy was awakened by the smoke alarm in her bedroom only to find her 3rd-story apartment full of thick smoke. She immediately called 911 and got out.
A fire had started on her deck, being fanned by the east winds. Though the fire department could not specifically find the cause but said the probable cause may have been an improperly extinguished cigarette. It got into her apartment and while did not burn everything, between the heavy smoke and water damage, virtually everything is ruined. It also did substantial damage to the apartments under hers as well.
My 11-year old grandson Wyatt was away at school at the time. Everybody is okay.
Amy does not have renter's insurance. Besides all of her and Wyatt's possessions being ruined, Amy quite likely has the liability for all of the damage to the apartment building.
The use of all funds generated will be used to help Amy and Wyatt get back on their feet, replacing basic necessities, but mainly to satisfy the huge debt she is facing.
Amy is a single working mother and I'm very proud of how she always meets her financial obligations but this is, to say the least, frightening.
Needless to say, any and all help would be helpful as soon as possible.
I love my daughter and grandson. They work very hard to have a good life together. I only wish I could take all of this away from them myself but I can't.
Thank you for reading my story. I appreciate more than you can know how you all love Amy and Wyatt so much. That means everything to me, and to them.
Thank you.
