Amy's Cancer Conquest

Donation protected
I'm writing today because I need all of your help.

On the afternoon of May 23rd 2016, I received a text message from my best friend, Amy Horan saying “Julie…  the doctor says I have cancer…”

In the days and weeks following, we found that her colorectal tumor has spread to her lymph nodes and that there are 10 additional tumors in the right side of her liver making her diagnosis Stage 4 Cancer.

Amy is only 47 years old and has always been healthy.  This diagnosis was an incredible shock to me and to her 3 sons.

In the last 4 ½ months I have seen Amy’s life change completely.

Amy was in the process of buying her first home on her own and that dream came to a halt as she began to undergo her cancer treatments. In June, she attended her youngest son’s graduation from high school and just days later was in surgery to install the chemo port in her chest.   She spent her recovery from that surgery helping 2 of her boys move into their own apartment, putting what she owns in storage and move to Portland with her sister and mom to be near OHSU for her treatments.

In August, after 4 rounds of chemo they discovered that her cancer has a mutant gene that makes the cancer cells resistant to the treatment she was on and they have changed the chemo drugs to “hit it harder” and try to shrink the cancer before they can begin surgical intervention to remove the tumors in 75% of her liver.

Amy has always worked hard to provide for her family.  Sometimes working 2 jobs to make ends meet but, her grueling Chemo treatment leaves her tremendously weak and sick and now she has had to put her job on hold and go on fulltime disability.

She is not one to ask for help but, cancer treatments are very expensive financially, physically and emotionally.  Her journey back to health is going to be a long and hard fight.   I am asking for your help to cover her medical expenses like deductibles, co-payments, hospital stays and more.

Most of Amy’s friends know that she has been an active part of the pool/billiards community for over 20 years playing VNEA, BCA, APA and City leagues in all over the Willamette Valley in Albany, Corvallis, Eugene, Newport, Lincoln City and Salem!

On October 29th we will be holding a benefit pool tournament for her to help her raise funds for the surgery on her liver.   If you cannot join us, please consider donating your $20 entry fee to help us help her.

Every dollar we raise for her will help her continue to fight this killer disease.
