Amy’s Birthday Swan Rescue Fundraiser!

Hello! I volunteer with a local swan rescue team and the last couple of months we’ve been busier than ever. Our work has always been entirely self-funded over the years but with increased demand, there are a few things I’d really love to get to aid what we do. Ahead of my birthday next month, I thought I’d set up a little fundraiser to raise funds for the team.

Some examples of rescues we attend include but are not limited to: removing fishing hooks and line from swans, assisting crash landed cygnets from roads, aiding swans trapped in boat locks and canal overflows, helping swans injured in animal attacks, as well as regular feeding/welfare checking to quickly identify changes and concerns.

Money raised will be going towards fabric (as oppose to plastic) swan rescue wraps to keep the swans cooler during transport, a swan hook for tricky water rescues, a hand held metal detector for less invasive monitoring for fishing hooks and depending on how much we raise, potentially a drone for rescues in thick bramble/hard to access areas. Excess funds will go towards basic supplies such as wound care pods, food for swans in “foster care” ahead of sanctuary stays and petrol costs for taking them there (we lack a local centre so this is a few hours away/why our team was originally founded!)

Any amount is truly appreciated as it all adds up. Having spent so much time with these birds, I can’t even begin to tell you how incredible they are. They’re almost red listed conservation wise, so every single one we save makes SUCH a difference to them and their future generations.
