Baker Strong
As many of you know, Amy has been battling stage 4 colon cancer with metastasis to her liver and lung since September 2015 and stage 3 melanoma that spread to her lymph nodes since January 2015. After undergoing surgery to treat the melanoma, in January 2016, Amy underwent a grueling eight-hour surgery to remove her colon cancer. Complications from that surgery resulted in an ICU stay and left her with congestive heart failure and a colostomy. After nine rigorous months of chemotherapy, a special team of doctors in Boston are devising a plan to treat the cancer that remains in her liver and lung.
Amy is no stranger to the medical battle inasmuch she has also been undergoing treatments for gastroparesis for the past ten years. That debilitating disease, which left her hospitalized for weeks at a time, has left her permanently disabled and unable to work since 2009. Incredibly, the Bakers nonetheless have managed for the past ten years. If you know Harry, Amy’s husband, you know what a hard-working and devoted husband and father he is. Harry has continued to hold down the fort, working his full-time position as a fireman and taking care of Amy (both in and out of the hospital) and their two great kids, Melissa and Harry IV. However, the medical expenses are mounting and, to put it simply, have become overwhelming. Many of the specialists Amy sees to manage her care do not take insurance. Even with insurance, the additional expenses are extraordinary. Amy is on IV medications 24/7 and requires oxygen and myriad medical supplies. With new hope and a plan for treatments in Boston comes even more expenses. The cost for travel to and from Boston alone will pose a financial obstacle. In addition, a puppy recently has been donated to the Baker family to help ease the emotional strain that all of this has had on the children. Amy and Harry contemplated finding a new home for the puppy but, from the moment the puppy arrived, Melissa and Harry IV. have had their spirits lifted in such a positive way. The new expenses of caring for the puppy, however, had added to the tremendous financial strain the Baker family is experiencing.
Nobody plans these extraordinary challenges. Amy and Harry have been stoic and humble through this all and have been resistant to asking for help. It was at the urging of their friends that this gofundme account has been set up. The Baker family needs us now more than ever. Nobody should have to choose between feeding their family or paying for life-saving medical care. Nobody.
Please consider making a donation to help with their medical and living expenses. No amount is too small. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
