I am Amy's classmate from high school, and I'm reaching out to folks far and wide to help support her and her family during a crisis. 16 years ago, Derek and Amy bought their dream home in the city of Carmel, Indiana. Three years after that purchase, they experienced catastrophic flooding in their basement after a rainstorm. Now, 13 years after that first flood, the basement has experienced severe flooding at least 12 times- most recently in December 2015. And to make matters worse, in January Derek was diagnosed with a blood cancer, with treatments leaving his immune system severely compromised and making him more susceptible to diseases caused by water damage-related mold.
The city of Carmel has refused to help them, after repeated pleas for assistance and calls/emails to city officials. The couple has had to relocate recently to avoid a potentially fatal health issue for Derek caused by the water damage.
I've known Amy for almost 25 years, and she is a good person, as is Derek. But sometimes bad things happen to good people, and that is why I'm asking for your help. Please donate (no matter how small the gift!) while Derek and Amy try to put their life back together after multiple unspeakable tragedies. And, if you can help in any other way, please let me know! It would mean so much!
