Amy St. John's Fight Against Pancreatic Cancer
Donation protected
On September 2, 2022, Amy St. John was 50 years old and welcoming her fifth grandchild into the world with her husband Alan. Less than six months later she was admitted to the emergency room with abdominal pain and diagnosed with stage 2 Adenocarcinoma Pancreatic Cancer.
Amy has been battling this aggressive and painful cancer since her diagnosis at the end of February 2023. She initially started chemotherapy and after a few rounds she encountered multiple complications including a massive blood clot. The complications and declining health forced her doctors to stop her chemotherapy. She was referred to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, one of the top cancer centers in the country. Upon arriving at MD Anderson on May 31, 2023, from her home in Michigan it was determined that the cancer had spread to her liver. As of June 11, 2023, she remains hospitalized and has been receiving excellent care. Amy is now able to keep down fluids although she still remains unable to eat solid foods and has developed another blood clot. The doctors have been able to manage some of the excruciating pain she has been experiencing and are attempting to improve her health enough to resume chemotherapy and hopefully shrink some of the tumors.
The road has been a hard one for Amy and her family. Being in Houston means that she is able to receive care that will hopefully extend her life. However, it also means that she is away from her husband, kids, grandkids and extended family, friends and her beloved pugs who are all in Michigan. It also means there will be additional medical costs since not all of her treatment is covered by her insurance. The family is also struggling with travel costs as they attempt to take turns visiting her. Any funds raised through this GoFundMe will be used for medical and travel costs from Michigan to Houston.
Thank you to everyone who have kept Amy and her family in their prayers and have sent their well wishes. It has made her feel very loved that so many people have reached out to her and have kept her in their thoughts. She really has been blessed with loving family and good friends.
