Hello!

My name is Jocelyn & I’m a friend of the Killick family. I’ve known Steve & Amy for the past 10 years & invite you to hear their story & carry this family as they face a difficult season. I know firsthand how much financial burden can overwhelm a family going through health challenges and my hope is that we can take some of that anxiety off the table to allow the Killick’s to focus on staying strong for each other.

This fall, life for the Killicks changed in an instant. At 42, Amy was diagnosed with breast cancer and is expected to undergo 20 weeks of chemotherapy and immunotherapy beginning September 29, followed by surgery the month after treatment is complete. Her type is aggressive, and they hope to have caught it early.

What should have been a normal school year for their family has become appointments, treatment and uncertainty about the months ahead.

Steve is a firefighter, and Amy is a local teacher who also gives back through Empty Arms, a nonprofit supporting families experiencing child loss.

In 2017, Amy and Steve lost their daughter, Briar. They turned that grief into helping others experiencing baby and child loss through volunteering and Amy’s work for Empty Arms at Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital, carrying countless families in their darkest moments. Giving to others has always been part of their lives.

Now, unexpectedly, they are the ones who need help.

Cancer comes with significant unexpected costs. One medication alone is expected to cost tens of thousands of dollars, alongside other treatment-related expenses, prescriptions, appointments and time away from work.

Donations will help to supplement these costs, as well as everyday expenses to help carry their kids, which will become harder to manage during treatment. This will give the family some financial breathing room while they focus on Amy’s recovery and their children.

Amy and Steve want to maintain as much normalcy as possible for Sloane, Brielle and Kane. School, activities, friends and family routines still matter, and financial help can reduce the disruption cancer treatment brings.

Every donation, big or small, will make this difficult chapter a little more manageable and soften their circumstances.
