Last spring Amy suddenly had a seizure. Over the course of spring and summer Amy was diagnosed with at least one tumor on the brain. She underwent her first surgery in June and was placed on seizure meds. The second tumor was more clearly identified in the fall and the best choice for Amy was surgery. On November 6th Amy underwent a more invasive surgery to remove the tumor deeper in the brain. During the operation she suffered a massive stroke that left her with very limited speech and no use of her right arm or leg. She was transferred to a high level rehabilitation facility in Worcester MA where she received daily speech therapy, physical therapy and occupational therapy. Insurance has required her to come home and she needs full time care and many improvements to the home such as wheelchair ramps, chair lifts, in home care and therapy to make it workable for her to live there. She has been working hard with her therapy and has regained some movement which allows her to get around in a wheelchair. Some verbal recognition has come back but it is hard for her to perform normal day to day functions or carry on a conversation. She is 45 years old.
Those of us who know Amy know that she is a kind, loyal, spirited, witty, incredibly sharp, individual. She loved teaching and spending time at her kids hockey games, dance recitals and performances. She would dominate crossword puzzles year after year on family vacations to Maine. Although she is working hard, it is unclear what the future will hold for Amy and the family. Brian has been working tirelessly to take care of her and the kids as well as serve as the sole provider for the family. They need the support, prayers, and funds to help her and her family through these rough days ahead.
We are reaching out to friends and family of Amy and Brians to update you on what the current situation is with her recovery and provide a platform for those who may want to donate funds. Many people have already helped with the kids, food and things around the house that we are so grateful for. Many others have asked what they can do. Now that she is home changes and expenses for home care will require funding that may not be available from their existing sources. Therefore we are starting the go fund me site as a way for you to help if you can and chose to. Any small donation would go a long way toward setting them up for her home care.
This has been a rough year for the family, but their strength and love for each other has proven to be stronger than any stroke could take away from them. Please keep them in your prayers.
