Amuzu Community Greater Tomorrow School Project.

My dear,
Greetings of the day.
I share with you this moment, a deplorable picture of the Elementary School in my Village, Amuzu in Amaimo of Ikeduru LGA, Imo State, Nigeria. May be I have earlier sent you a video excerpt of corruption perpetrated by people in government over our poor community school. In their shameless habit, they duped our community school by diverting funds which would have been used to reconstruct the school. All we got thereafter was an attempt to portray my village in the worst limelight. Unfortunately they have decided to pull down the video from you-tube because it exposed the greed politicians in Nigeria thrive in. Be it as it may, we have accepted the challenge and have decided to use the mockery video to galvanize effort to rebuild this school beyond what they can imagine. Hopefully this effort when realized will deprive them any more attempt to utilize the dilapidated nature of this school as a conduit to swindle from the Nigerian treasury which has no accountability.

Amuzu Elementary School structure is bad, in fact very bad indeed. The structure is not good for animal den, what more suitable as classrooms for kids, our own children, the hopes for tomorrow. It is regrettable that many today have million dollars / naira homes in villages inhabited by lizards and cockroaches , while children from our communities have no classrooms. This fact is mind buggling. I am however, not ashamed to talk about it simply because I realized that I cannot afford to change the situation alone. Keeping quiet is not good option either. During this last rain (in 2019) kids from my community school were rotating from sections to corners in our school building. Apparently trying to avoid rain beating on them while in classrooms. Worst more, it was disheartening to see and hear that teachers and their pupils were defecating same place in adjoining farmland. The principal of the school uses a storage as an office. What an irony and site, in this day and age?

Do not lament over this situation, of cause we know that a responsible government will work to salvage this situation but this is not the case in Nigeria. Arguably also, you may question why I should bother you with this. You are right, it is the responsibility of my community as well as mine. But I know that we have all supported each other and if you were in my shoes, I will not turn my back on you.. That is why I have no problem wearing the title of a glorified beggar. In fact I have no problem begging for this cause.

Back in 2012, eight of us from Amuzu village met in California and decided to take up this challenge / responsibility; to provide eight classrooms, teachers offices and a school auditorium. Evidenced by the picture insert, the scope of this work is weighing heavily on our meager salaries.. We have roofed the blocks work, now going into plastering the walls and doing the fittings. Our purse is dry.

I appeal to your God given conscience which urges you to help the needy. Please do not contaminate this urge with wild imaginations. I want you to help us. You are not from Amuzu, neither do you know these kids, God's call to help is not limited by boundaries. Any amount is appreciated and God will replenish your source. I do not have any strange expectation from you. Our dream is to have a roof over their head before 2020 rain.
Be a part of this effort or alternatively print for your child's reading. It's an important tale of ugly situation in Nigeria, the 7th oil producing nation in the world.

As an update, check out this gofundme page, many are giving ranging from $5 to $100, please be a part.

Thanks
Committee of Eight
