I have been dealing with diabetes most of my life and I haven't worriedone about my health like I should have. I always cared and helped others who were sick or needed some form of help that I could offer. Two years ago, about 5 years ago I started having numbness in both of my feet and I ended up getting a few opinions on it and it turned out to be neuropathy. I didn't understand it and just figured it was something I would just have to deal with for the rest of my life.
Two years ago I got my first pressure sore on my right foot. I showed my wife and she mentioned that I should go get it checked out. I then was sent to a foot doctor and he said that we will get this fixed. They took pictures of the sore and measured it and then I began a full month and a half of healing. What happened is since I had to take pressure off of that sore the other side of my foot also formed a blister which turn into an open wound that I could never get under control. All the while this was going on my neuropathy got worse and I couldn't feel a thing at all.
Fast forward now to just a few months ago, I was going through a divorce and moved into a mission in Boise, ID and while there my feet began to get bad. I didn't know how bad until the day I went to the emergency room. In the mission, we have open showers which not only the residents use but the public is allowed to use during the day. When I would get off work at 10pm at night I would take a shower. My shower shoes I bought had no protection from the water that splashed up in them and apparently my outside sore was open and exposed to this water. I didn't know how bad it would get...
The day before Thanksgiving came and I was headed into work. I was on the phone with my wife when I noticed a smell and then realised it was my right foot. I took my shoe off and rubbed my foot and when I pulled my hand back it was completely soaked and wet with puss. I headed to the ER.
While there and headed up to go inside, my leg started giving out and then I had to drag my right leg to get inside. I walked through the doors and stood there for what I thought was about 30 seconds and I heard the nurse ask if I needed help. I replied I did and sat down in a wheelchair they had there. It turns out I had stood there for 2 minutes and the nurses had called for assistance and I was in shock and imagined this all happened.
The doctor inspected my foot and I took a few pictures because my wife had asked to see it. He told me the good news and bad news. I'll either lose half of my foot or my whole leg. I apparently went into shock a little more. The only other thing I remember was the doctor saying that they would schedule an mri that night to see how far the infection had gone up my leg.
I remember that night waking up about 10pm and praying that God would give me strength to make it through this. I remember taking my cell phone and listening to Let Them See You by Colton Dixon and just crying as God revealed a lot of stuff about who He is to me. This was a turning point in my life.
I woke up the next day still feeling the effects of the anesthesia and not realizing that I had had the surgery yet. There was a nurse who smiled and said good morning and checked my vitals. They needed to get the doctor. When he came in he greeted me warmly and then we had an amazing conversation.
To summarize it, he asked me what my goals were after he showed me where they had amputated my foot and part of my lower leg.
I said I want to walk again.
He said good, never lose that mindset.
He told me about prosthetics and rehab I would be dealing with over the next year and a half or more and I understood. This would be a struggle but I wanted God to know that I wanted to do this with Him. He gave me such an amazing peace and I cannot stop talking about Jesus and what He has done for me.
What I need is help covering bills and needs I need to have while I'm transitioning to this new lifestyle God has blessed me with. Here's is a summary...
Vehicle $6400
Insurance $1500 for the year
Handicapping The Vehicle $1000
Rent For Apartment $6500 for year
And the rest is for basic needs.
I need help monetarily and spiritually!
I now stay at the Boise Rescue Mission and I'm in a wheelchair and have limited mobility for the moment. I would love to be in an apartment soon that is handicapable for me for sure before February.
Thank you for your prayers and support and I will keep you all updated! God bless you guys and Jesus is King!!
