Amo's first Haircut for Sick kids

Donation protected
Be prepared. This is a long one but definitely worth a read and from our hearts…..

Due to Polynesian cultural reasons, we decided not to cut our son Te Amotawas (now 4) hair until he was 5.

The longer it grew, the curlier it got.
It was beautiful.
That soft "baby hair feel" with these gorgeous looking surfy curls tinged with different shades of brown/blonde running through it.

Amo was the original "man bun" trend setter.
A little Maui or a Great samurai warrior when it was in a top knot.

In recent times, he became more conscious on his physical appearance with his hair.
(some of you may remember my rant on facebook lol). He was being mistaken for a girl. This crushed his confidence and broke our hearts. But we found a way to teach him to brush it off by showing him strong Polynesian warriors with equally long hair.

But only in the last few weeks, hes really been pushing for it to get cut.
Its hot and humid here (central QLD Aus) and hes beginning to aspire to really wanting to look like “ Uncle so and so” Or “Superman” or some other action hero.

Myself and Dad Billy were always oblivious to his wishes because WE loved his hair so much.
So much that it was blinding us from seeing what Amo actually wanted.

But this time we have listened and will follow through with his wish.

But to make something special out of it, and also to teach him the gift of giving to those more in need,
Weve decided to make this a “big deal” because it kind of is.

We will donate his beautiful locks to the AAAF (Australian alopecia areata foundation)
An organization who has created a "Wigs for Kids" initiative. Providing wigs from donated hair to give to a little child like Amo who needs it more than he does.
Someone who probably dosent take hair for granted as much as we all do.
Someone, whose little boy or girl needs their confidence "pepped up".

We have also set up a gofundme page and have chosen 2 charities to donate too.

For those of you who are parents - how hard is it watching your child in pain or sickness? From getting their needles or spending the night(s) in a scary hospital? A lot of times, admittedly, it has put me to tears watching him in pain.

So this is why we have chosen these two charities. An AUS one and a NZ one, which is only fair

Starlight Australia and Variety NZ.

Both of these are organisations who seek not too find a medical cure for sick children, but a cure to help kids if just for a moment, to forget about their illnesses, brighten up their lives and let the kids “be kids” again. Because fun and laughter is still the best medicine.

So all we ask of you is, to share and follow our little snippets of Amo’s journey thus far with his dreamy locks and to sacrifice your Friday’s coffee shout or ice cream sundae on Saturday night to our purpose. $2, or $10, your donation will help make another child forget about their needles or radiation treatment for a small moment. And that there, is definitely something to smile about.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for reading, creating awareness and supporting our cause
