In December, Russell Ammon age 45, suffered a major stroke with an anursym. Russ lives in Butler, PA with his wife Heather and their two children. Both Russ and his wife are scout leaders and active members of their community.
Russ, a locksmith who frequently travels for work, was away in Newport News, VA when he suffered this medical emergency. It is believed he suffered the stroke late on December 12th. However, it took until December 14th to get him help. He was staying at a hotel and had a "Do not disturb" sign up. Hotel staff could hear him snoring through the door and assured his wife that he was okay. When an ambulance was called, the EMT's quickly assesed him and transported him to the hospital. Later that day he was transferred to a larger medical center. Where they were better equiped to handle his injury. His wife and mother traveled the many hours to be with him. They were joined just before Christmas by his children, his father and Heather's mother. Heather and his children traveled home after Christmas. His parents were able to stay for an additional week. Until they too had to travel home without him.
Many people have helped the family already, both friends and strangers. Some simply by visiting Russ and his family. There is still much to be done.
Russ is being transported the 400+ miles to a hospital in Pittsburgh. This will help his family and friends, as they will now be able to visit more easily. He faces a long recovery and many expenses. This family, like many others lives paycheck to paycheck. The family is currently recieving short term disability, at a fraction of what he was making. They have done what they can to cut costs and conserve where possible.
As friends of this family we ask you to reach into your hearts (and pockets) to help this family.
