SMVA Trust is a global humanitarian organization established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 1995. It gained associative status with the United Nations’ Department of Public Information in 2014 and is actively involved in advancing the UN’s Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development.
SMVA Trust was founded by Amma Sri Karunamayi, world-renowned humanitarian and spiritual teacher. Under her leadership it continues to foster the essential human values of non-violence, selfless service, compassion, truthfulness, love, peace and respect for all cultures.
SMVA Trust is committed to promoting development of the world’s vulnerable communities and to creating lasting, sustainable change by empowering others. Including education for children living in poverty, social justice for women and girls, housing programs, water treatment facilities, healthcare, natural disaster relief, hunger eradication and environmental protection.
Many of these activities take place in South India, where SMVA Trust has established two free schools, a free hospital, over 200 homes and 32 water treatment plants. Through the Sri Karunamayi Free Hospital, the SMVA Trust has been able to provide vital medical care to a community of about 500,000 people living in the Southern India. This year SMVA Trust also began initiatives in Uganda, East Africa. Amma’s two schools offer free education to hundreds of children who would otherwise be confined to a life of daily labor.
SMVA Trust also remains a catalyst for change with programs that reach underserved populations in the United States, Colombia, Canada, and Australia.

AMMA SRIi KARUNAMAYI was born in India in 1958 as a manifestation of the divine mother who would help to heal the world.
Amma has been touring the world for over 23 years inspiring countless people individually and to larger audiences via TV and in other platforms, including the World Parliament of Religions in the presence of the Dalai Lama and former President Jimmy Carter with her speech on the Plight of Girls Worldwide, and recently on Peace with the United Nations Staff in New York.
Amma’s spiritual work is universal and non-sectarian. Her mission is world peace and universal well-being. During her programs, Amma gives blessings, shares wisdom, holds meditation retreats, and performs sacred fire ceremonies to benefit all humankind and the world. During her visits to each city, countless people come to express their worries and problems and to request blessings or guidance.
Amma often likes to say that: "Her only work in this world is to remove the suffering from the hearts of Her Children”.
She asks not that we see her as a guru or that we abandon our own faith or path.
She welcomes people of all faiths or paths equally, and she never seeks to change anyone’s beliefs.
