URGENT UPDATE (2/9/24): Amma and D are facing eviction on 2/12/24.
A lot has happened over the past few months. Amma continues to struggle with long Covid and she lost her car in a hit and run accident. There is so much more to say but the bottom line is that Amma and D are facing the very real reality of losing housing on Monday February 12th. You can help!! Any amount is helpful! $10 will help get us towards our goal.
Amma needs to raise another $2900 by Monday 2/12/24 to remain housed. That will bring the current GoFundMe total up to $5225.
Amma has exhausted all available social services.
If you use social media please post and post often between now and Monday.
UPDATE (10/23/23):
Since my last sharing Amma has unfortunately been hospitalized multiple times with kidney and stomach issues, chemo is hard on the body and can have lasting effects.
In spite of all those physical challenges, she was able to get the much needed knee surgery and is currently recovering! These health hiccups and unexpected procedures are prolonging her ability to get back on her feet. She has one more knee surgery before she can return to work.
Any financial support is much needed and appreciated for the next few months! Thanks to everyone for your support, it means so much and Amma is incredibly grateful! Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season :)
Hello, I’m writing this on behalf of my dear friends Mama Amma (aka Amma) and D. In the last year Amma has survived the rigors of chemo for treatment of stage four lymphoma. During this time she also made it through two bouts of covid, leaving her with a long covid diagnosis. Last month she was admitted to the hospital for three weeks, this was her 7th hospitalization since her lymphoma diagnosis. The hardware in her right knee had broken down, causing an infection that led to kidney failure. She is now waiting for revision knee replacement in her right knee and total knee replacement in her left. The intensity of stage four chemo led to the crumbling of her teeth which requires surgery. The oral surgery must happen first to ensure that it's safe to intubate Amma for knee surgery. Throughout everything she has showed up and been an amazing parent to 9-year-old D. Amma is a deeply loving and kind soul and to say that she is a friend to all is an understatement.
Amma worked hard to make sure that she and D wouldn’t lose their housing while she underwent treatment. There came a time when her body and critical thinking skills were no longer able to sustain her position. During this time she ran out of personal means to support herself and was able to utilize every possible resource and service available which kept her and D housed and fed. Amma is reaching a critical point as fewer resources are available to her now as the time limits and funding caps through various social services are being reached.
Amma is physically unable to work until she has these two knee surgeries and though she has employment waiting for her once she is recovered this is truly a dire moment of need for this small family.
It is not Amma's instinct to ask others for help as she is so often the first one to offer help when others are in need. This is why it is so vital that we all as a community rally together to ensure that Amma and the brilliant, funny and sweet D have the stability of housing, food and basic needs.
