Amlasheel is a young Dhamma mitra from Uttar Pradesh, India, who came to the movement 3-4 years ago at the age of 23, having had a very difficult life. She is involved with Triratna activities in Ghaziabad and volunteers for the National Network of Buddhist Youth (NNBY) in India.
I am fundraising for her to come on the women's Dharma Life course at Adhisthana, beginning in July 2017 - along with Bharati, another young woman from India who works as Subhuti's translator.
Adhisthana is offering full bursary places to both women for the course, (£6000 in total), and Subhuti has generously offered to cover Bharati's extra costs. It's great that we're able to finance two women attending from India, so that they can support one another in adjusting to a new country and culture, and also to form a connection with one another which will endure in India.
Amlasheel needs financial support to pay for her travel, visa and personal spending money for the duration of the course, and we hope you can join the efforts of Adhisthana, Subhuti and the Indian Sangha in supporting these two women to participate in the course together, alongside 6 other women from around the world, and benefit from their experiences of Adhisthana and the Sangha in the UK.
Attendance on the course will likely be a once in a lifetime opportunity for young Indians to experience Adhisthana and the Sangha in the UK, to study in a way that they are unlikely to be able to in India and to receive a perspective on Triratna in the west, as well as communicating their own perspective. They will be able to take back all that they gain to a context where people are in desperate need of the Dharma.
The Indian wing of the movement is very different from that in the west, both culturally and economically, and care is required to ensure that understanding and meaningful connection grows between them, with half of our mitras, and a third of the Order in Triratna living in India. It is especially valuable to foster understanding and friendship between the younger generations and, living and practising in such close proximity, this course will certainly offer this. It will support them in forming friendships and strengthening our international connections which are essential for the development and deepening of our growing international movement, and crucial for us to maintain our unity as one international Sangha.
If 100 people around Triratna worldwide give £20 each, we'll meet our target and go beyond... So please, think of how much can you comfortably give, and whether you can stretch a bit further beyond that, to enable Amlasheel to take up this precious opportunity...
