Help MaryAnn's recovery from Scammers
Donation protected
One of the saddest things I have ever heard was last night.
I returned from a meeting and called a friend MaryAnn who lived nearby to see how she liked her new walker.
My boss had several new ones in his warehouse and I thought to ask him for one after I saw her struggling with the broken one which she had. So I dropped it off for Maryann on Monday.
But when I called last night to see how she liked it I discovered she had been scammed by someone on the phone. For what she says was her only savings.
And she's renting. But her Social Security doesn't cover that and all her monthly bills.
And what could I do?
I listened to the story and actually felt some anger that she could have been fooled this way. But mostly I just felt sad for her. Terribly sad.
94 years old and alone in this world. She outlived everyone she once knew.
I just can't believe there are such horrible people out there. And now I'm worrying what will happen to her.
I hope we can put something together, however small to supplement each month's shortfalls in order to keep her in the place she calls home for her remaining time with us.
