My Baby Smudge’s Story
Hi, my name is Emma, and this is my baby’s story.
On October 25th, I came home from work and noticed my baby boy, Smudge, wasn’t acting like himself. In my gut, I knew something was wrong. He wasn’t his usual playful self, and when I touched his belly, he groaned in pain. I immediately rushed him to the emergency vet, terrified and not knowing what to expect.
As soon as we arrived, Smudge was taken from me and sedated. The vet discovered that he had a urinary blockage — crystals and stones were blocking his urethra, likely caused by a urinary tract infection. Blockages are extremely dangerous and often fatal in male cats if not treated right away.
I was heartbroken. Smudge was operated on that night around 5 PM, and thankfully, he made it through surgery. An hour later, he was back in my arms, and we went home to rest and heal together.
But just 24 hours later, at 5:30 AM, Smudge started acting off again. He was hiding, hissing, groaning, and just not himself. My heart sank — I knew something was terribly wrong. I rushed him back to the emergency vet, and once again, he was taken from me.
The blockage had returned — and this time, it was much worse. The vet told me we needed to talk about putting him down, as this could become a lifelong issue. I was completely shattered. Then the vet mentioned a surgery called a Perineal Urethrostomy (PU) — a procedure that would save Smudge’s life and prevent future blockages. It would give him the chance to go back to his happy life — with his toys, his treats, and me.
The only problem is the cost. Between the emergency procedures and this surgery, the total comes to $8,000
I hate asking for help, but this isn’t something I can afford on my own. Smudge is my world — my best friend, my comfort, my little shadow — and I’ll do anything to give him the life he deserves.
Please, if you’re able to help, even a dollar makes a difference. Every bit counts toward saving my boy’s life. Thank you so much for reading and for caring about Smudge.
