Hi All, we are starting this GoFundMe page to allow people to donate to assist Amir Shihata’s medical expenses.
As most of you are aware of, Amir suffered a life-threatening injury having been elbowed to his throat during soccer training on the evening of June 11th. He was rushed to the hospital as he was coughing up blood and was unable to breathe. The blow to the throat resulted in a broken trachea, laryngeal fracture and a collapsed airway.
Amir was rushed into surgery the night of for a tracheostomy, a surgically made hole through the front of his neck into his trachea (windpipe) allowing a tube to be placed through the hole to allow him to breathe and stabilized him.
Amir underwent a second surgery the following day, an ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation surgery) of laryngeal fracture to repair the fracture in his throat which the doctor explained went well.
As of now Amir is awake and is currently admitted to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk VA. He is currently breathing through the tracheostomy and just recently able to drink/eat thin substances on his own. He isn’t able to speak as he also suffered extensive damage to his vocal cords and voice box which will require surgery to attempt to repair once the swelling and laryngeal fracture heals more.
We like to thank all who have prayed and supported Amir thus far through this life-threatening event and continue to do so as doctors and nurses explained “It’s a miracle how he survived.” We will try our best to keep everyone updated on Amir’s situation.
Thank you
The Shihata family.
