Support Amir's ballet education!

India is about to produce one of its first professional male ballet dancers: Help us send Amir to the American Ballet Theatre school in New York!

Amir Shah, 15, was raised in a low-income neighborhood in Vashi, Navi Mumbai. One day, during a hip hop class at Mumbai's Danceworx Academy, ballet master Yehuda Maor noticed that Amir was not just an ordinary dancer. His remarkable physique, as well as the shape of his feet and his natural movement proved that he was truly gifted. Maor asked him if he would try a ballet class.

This day marked a significant change in both Maor and Amir's lives. Amir knew absolutely nothing of ballet, but since that day about 2 years ago, Maor has taken Amir under his wing and trained him personally in ballet technique, as well as the history of the art form. For Maor as a dance teacher, it was like winning the lottery to have Amir as a student.

Amir has demonstrated an incredible amount of perseverance and dedication; he has even quit school to focus on his entirely on his ballet career. Within only 2 short years of classical ballet training, he has been invited to renowned professional schools in the US including the Joffrey Ballet School in New York and the Oregon Ballet Theater school.

Now, Amir has been accepted to one of the most prestigious ballet academies in the world, the American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School in New York. Students of this school have gone on to become principal dancers at the world's most well-reputed professional ballet companies - and Amir now has the chance to both dance among them and potentially join in their ranks.

Amir has received an extremely generous contribution from the Yusuf and Farida Hameid Foundation that will cover tuition and residence costs at JKO. (Thank you Yusuf!!) However, we are still fundraising to make sure Amir will be able to afford classes outside of JKO to keep up his technique when not at the school, English tutoring, dance equipment, as well as the high cost of living in New York.  Yehuda will also be needing support to accompany Amir to New York - as it will be Amir's first time in an entirely new country and context.

Amir and Yehuda have overcome all odds to get to this point, and he needs as much support as possible. He has the potential to become the Zubin Mehta of international ballet and dazzle audiences in theaters around the world.

Be a part of this historic journey!
