My name is Amir and I am from Manila, Philippines and I am heavily devastated by this pandemic.
In January 2019, I learned an opportunity and started venturing into the computer shop micro-business in 2019, I used all my life savings to start it up. One year and 2 months in the making and business was doing well until COVID-19 happened.
In March 2020, the Philippine government imposed an extreme lockdown and our business (which happens to be a Category 4 business) were not allowed to open until September, 2020. That was 7 months of zero operations and also 7 months worth of monthly space rentals, and continuous utility expenses. The government did not do anything about the pandemic to future proof and support businesses except for a memorandum posted in April 2020 that says non-operational businesses during community lockdowns can avail of 30 days grace period and amortization of total rentals to maximum of 6 months.
We have thought that they will revise the memorandum and they did not, now we are facing the worst business situation of all time, after the 30 days period, we will have to pay double for the rent, we used to pay 31500 Php per month pre-Covid, now we will have to pay 63000 Php for the next few months until the end of our contract. Our Leaser is non cooperative, she felt no compassion and wanted us to pay as soon as possible based on contract which has been a nightmare to deal with.
Our monthly rental is 31500 Php per month, starting from March 2020 up to the contract period of January 2021 which will result in a devastating total of 346,500 Php which is equivalent to $9934.28 Australian Dollars.
Please also take note that families, individuals and businesses have received ZERO support from the Philippines government.
We have now been fortunate enough to operate again from September 5 but the current business situation is operational at allowed capacity of 30%. We are hopeful and we are trying very hard to make it work and survive, but numbers do not lie. We have an average daily gross sales of 600 pesos. If the numbers continue to be like this, we will have to face closure and WORST, we would have to still pay for the past rental dues and utility expenses. As stated by our landlord, we would still have to pay our lessor and other expenses starting October 18, 2020.
This experience has been devastating and this is our last source of any hope. I am hoping that the universe will hear me and people would care to read and help us out in any way way possible. It has truly been a struggle and a nightmare.
I can't recall the last time I had a good sleep nor a good rise in the morning. Waking up to uncertainty and anxiousness every morning, we are super tired, everyday is a fight to survive and struggle.
Your help of any kind is greatly appreciated.
May the universe and the highest bless you a million folds in return.
Thank you very much.
