Help us raise $15,000 by June 2022, to fund facility rentals and equipment for the AMINGA Youth Sports Development Program in São Vicente, Cape Verde. Help us make AMINGA: Youth Sports Development Program a sustainable education program in Africa!
After a successful inaugural program, we are excited to launch our second session of the AMINGA Youth Sports Development Program in July 2022! Many of our original AMINGA staff and all of our campers are excited to return to Escola Salesiana de Artes e Ofícios de Mindelo, Cape Verde, for nine days of intensive sports training, educational enrichment, and much more.
At AMINGA, our mission is a multi-prong approach to supporting athleticism, education, wellness and mindfulness among youth in the global south through
sports programming.
2021 Camp Highlights:
- Through AMINGA YSDP, Diego Alexandre da Cruz Alves, AMINGA’s Basketball MVP, was awarded the opportunity to live, study and play basketball for 11 months at MVP Academy in Rio Maior, Portugal.
- 51 youth ages 13-17 participated in basketball and volleyball training teams with a 100% daily attendance rate.
- Participants' confidence grew as they grappled with learning a new language and developing foundational skills in reading, writing, and speaking English in full immersion classes.
- Participants learned the essentials of coding and computer programming.
- Aminga staff collaborated with coaches and teachers from the community to exchange ideas and share skills.
- The Applied Behavioral Analysis team provided social-emotional support for our campers through daily discussions and activities.
- Campers explored mindfulness by starting each day with a yoga and meditation practice.
- Each day campers, staff, and volunteers ate two nutritious and delicious meals.
2022 Camp Goals:
- Bring back campers from the 2021 cohort as leaders and build on the momentum in their sport and academic enrichment.
- Increase our reach from 50 campers to 120 campers served.
- Add Handball to our sports offerings.
- Add new classes in Robotics, Arts, Human Rights, and Problem Solving.
- Fund scholarships for opportunities that our campers can access throughout the year.
How your donation can help AMINGA:
- A gift of $10~$15 will help us provide one day’s worth of meals for one youth.
- A gift of $25~$50 will help us provide classroom supplies for one volunteer teacher (English, Arts, Human Rights, Problem Solving, Computers, and Robotics)
- A gift of $50~$100 will help us provide athletic equipment for a youth who needs it (either sneakers, sports bras, socks, or knee pads).
- A gift of $100 or more will provide a scholarship opportunity for a youth to attend an athletic and educational program in Portugal or the United States.
