Hello! My name, as you may already know, is Amina Aineb. I'm a seventeen year old gal trying to raise money for my tuition at the Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.
Since freshman year, I have studied creative writing at the Asawa School of the Arts. In this time, I have won awards for my short fiction in the San Francisco LitArts festival, been the editor in chief of my school's literary journal Umlaut, attended California State Summer School for the Arts in their creative writing program, taught a creative writing course at Presidio Middle School, and have consistently been published in numerous literary magazines. When I started high school, I set the goal to improve my writing and give myself the tools I needed to develop a unique voice. Four years later, I am still dedicated to that goal, and feel that Evergreen is the perfect place to continue that journey.
In my writing, I often explore the natures of connection and loneliness, and the effects these concepts have on the world. Typically, I explore these themes in speculative fiction that show what mankind’s future might look like, and the human emotions that could lead us to those places. I am currently working on my senior thesis, a collection of short stories revolving around these ideas. I'm hoping that in college I can gain experience and that my writing continues to evolve.
Evergreen's special program based curriculum allows me to directly intersect the subjects I'm interested in with my art. While most colleges supply a rigid series of required courses and allow a degree of experimentation once you've decided a major, Evergreen encourages their students to design their education and explore connections between subjects from freshman year. This place is my dream school and their approach to education is one I wholeheartedly agree with.
Out of state tuition at Evergreen is about $36,000 a year. With my older sister currently attending college, this is a stretch for my family. I have been doing whatever I can to lower this number and help my family pay for the cost by applying to numerous scholarships and working part time jobs. Although this has helped to an extent, I need to take every opportunity I can. I've decided to launch this GoFundme to help my family manage the cost.
