Amilcar Hernandez Family - Funeral

Donation protected

Hey Everybody,

As many of you are aware, Amilcar Hernandez passed away yesterday, February 25th. That being said, I felt inspired to start a GoFundMe account in order to help his family cover funeral costs and any expenses that they might have during this difficult time.

I wanted to share with you a little bit about the Amilcar I got to know personally at Oz. Amilcar was from a little farm in Guatemala. He spent about 30 years working in the hospitality industry and roughly 3 years at Oz. When I was hired by Oz, we instantly made a connection. We often talked about our love of farming and working in the kitchen industry. Amilcar was one of those guys that just always had good vibes around him. Didn't matter the day, time, or situation, he always had a smile on his face. In fact, if Amilcar wasn't smiling (which was few and far between) then he would undoubtedly be found singing his head off. I can't count the number of times that I found him singing in the back. At this point I'd try to figure out what he was singing and who the artist was. 9 out of 10 times, I couldn't figure it out and neither could any of the other cooks nearby that I happened to ask along the way. This guessing game always ended in everyone having a good laugh.  The answer was always some old folk song which I thought was awesome.   Another story about Amilcar that I will never forget was how he told me he used to work 120 hours a week. As many of you know, I am not fluent in Spanish. I thought, hey, well I must have heard it wrong. To ensure that I had heard correctly I asked someone to translate it for me. That inevitably led to a detailed mapping out of his weekly schedule for 10 years at 120 hours a week. I had no idea how  someone could work that much and still be that happy, he was an anomaly. Amilcar was a sincere, authentic, and quite frankly a beautiful person. I'm honored that I met Amilcar and I feel so lucky that I had him in my life, however brief.

That's why Amilcar was so special to me and no doubt his family/friends too. Please feel free to donate as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Any donations will go to his family so that they can take Amilcar back to his home country in Guatemala.
