Our beloved Ixim has been very sick this past week and needs the help of her human friends.

Last week, Ixim suddenly began showing several alarming symptoms — fever, loss of appetite, vomiting, yellowing of her skin and gums, and urinary incontinence — so I rushed her to the emergency hospital. They ran tests and started her on antibiotics, but she has been responding very slowly. Each night her condition seems to get worse.

After a second visit, the diagnosis now suggests that her liver is not functioning properly. She urgently needs a liver biopsy so a specialist can determine whether she has chronic liver disease or dangerously high copper levels. Once they have the results, the veterinarians will be able to begin the correct treatment.

Her veterinarian has given us hope that Ixim could still live several more years with a good quality of life if she receives the right treatment. But the liver biopsy needs to happen very soon — so this has truly become a race against time. We need $4,500 to cover all of Ixim’s veterinary expenses.

Ixim is still a young dog at only 5.9 years old. Since the beginning of her life she has been strong and brave in fighting for her health. She has been my loyal companion through the years we’ve spent together, and I hope I don’t have to make the heartbreaking decision to put her to sleep so soon.

If you are a friend of Ixim, you know she is a sweet and loving dog — adventurous, curious, and always ready to explore the world. She deserves the chance to keep enjoying life for a few more years.

Nuestra querida Ixim ha estado enferma en la última semana y necesita de la ayuda de sus amigos humanos.

Ixim comenzó repentinamente a tener varios síntomas —fiebre, pérdida de apetito, vómito, piel y mucosas amarillas, incontinencia urinaria— la semana pasada, así que la llevé al hospital de emergencia. Le hicieron pruebas y le administraron un tratamiento de antibióticos, pero está respondiendo muy lentamente. Cada noche su condición empeora.

Después de una segunda visita, el diagnóstico apunta a que su hígado no está funcionando bien por lo que necesita una biopsia para que el especialista determine si padece daño hepático crónico o niveles altos de cobre. A partir de los resultados, los veterinarios podrán administrarle un nuevo tratamiento.

Su veterinaria nos dio esperanzas de que Ixim pueda vivir algunos años con calidad de vida bajo un tratamiento, pero deben hacerle la biopsia del hígado muy pronto. Así que esto es una carrera contra el tiempo. Necesitamos 4,500 dls para cubrir todos los gastos veterinarios.
