Amie's Fight Against Stage 4 Metastatic Cancer

Donation protected
On March 20, 2019, Amie Lynn Cottrell, a 39 year old mother of 4, was given news that completely turned her entire world upside down, news that Amie has been in fear of hearing for the last few years- “Your cancer is back, it has spread and you now have Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.” This time, there is no cure and she will not go into remission. Amie has a tough battle ahead of her, a LIFELONG, never-ending fight this time. Your contributions will go directly towards assisting Amie and her family with basic living expenses, groceries, prescription costs, deductibles, uninsured medical expenses, co-pays, and other needs directly related to her care.

Amie is the oldest of us 6 Goelz siblings. Amie has always been the one that all of us, her brothers and sisters, have looked up to and admired. From her beauty to her strength, to her contagious smile and her selfless heart. She is the big sister you could only dream of having. Amie is the rock of our family. If you need honest advice, Amie is the one to turn to. If you need to cry, Amie is the one to comfort you and wipe away your tears. Amie has this way of making everything seem like it will be ok. But this time, Amie needs our help and support.

Amie is married to her wonderful husband, Tim. Together they have 4 beautiful, young, active, healthy, and happy children. Nicholas is 9, Michael 7, and identical twin girls Alyssa & Katelyn who are 4 years old.

In June of 2016 when Amie was 36 years old, the twins were not even 2 years old yet. Her young boys who were 7 & 5 years old at the time, had just got out of school for the summer, excited and anxious to be home for 2 months to do fun things with their Mommy, Daddy and sisters. Until the unthinkable happened…Amie was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Amie had felt a small lump and thought it was from just having the twins, maybe from breast feeding or pregnancy and assumed it was nothing serious. Well it was serious. After numerous scans and biopsies she was told she had multiple cancerous tumors in her breast. Without hesitation, Amie did everything and anything she had to do to beat this cancer. Amie had numerous doctors appointments, a mounting pile of deductibles, co-pays and bills coming in the mail on top of difficult, yet IMPORTANT decisions to make that would affect her life. All along while taking care of four children 7 years old and under. Amie went ahead and had a double mastectomy, tiring months & months of chemotherapy, and numerous surgeries over the last 2 1/2 years. As you can imagine, this had a tremendous effect on Amie & Tim’s financial situation and on their children. Nick and Mike being only 7 & 5 years old, were old enough to see changes in their mommy, but not old enough to understand them. Imagine not understanding why their mommy was sick not only all summer, but for months following, not understanding why their mommy lost all of her hair, not understanding why their mommy all of a sudden wasn’t physically or medically allowed to be able to be the adventurous/outdoorsy type she always has been. But no matter how tired and ill Amie felt, she was strong for them, holding back tears, hiding her true emotions while lovingly caring for their constant growing needs. Amie did what we all knew she would do, she put up one hell of a fight and proved just how strong she was…by January 2017...Amie was in remission!

After doing everything possible to make sure she was cured, she was in the best possible place in her life putting this unfair, crazy mess behind her and trying every day to move forward. And although she was very optimistic, Amie still had to wake up every morning with the fear that there was STILL a chance of the cancer returning.

On March 20, 2019, Amie’s worst nightmare became a reality. Amie was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer OUT OF NO WHERE.

Amie was having significant pain throughout her upper body, herself and her doctor believed it was most likely from the numerous surgeries. To be sure, she went ahead and had a bone scan done, x-rays, an MRI, followed by a petscan. (Which she had to FIGHT her insurance company to approve) These test results showed nodules on her chest and cancer on different bones throughout her entire body- including her skull, humerus, sternum, spine, and pelvis. They went ahead and did a bone biopsy which confirmed Amie’s breast cancer is back, and has spread to her bones. Amie has a tough battle ahead of her, a lifelong fight now. BUT this time, SHE NEEDS OUR HELP!!

Amie and her husband need to focus on getting Amie the best possible treatment and care. They need to focus on doing everything possible to keep up with treatments all while raising and loving four young children. Amie has started on bone strengthening injections and will start two types of chemotherapy this week along with radiation treatment. The side affects are numerous and Amie will need Tim home as much as possible. They should NOT have to stress about putting food on the table, the co-pays rolling in, the medical bills piling up, and they especially should not have to stress whether or not their insurance company will cover certain procedures and treatment. The thought of having more financial burden on top of the heartbreaking struggle through these nasty treatments and the worry of missing work should not have to cross their minds. Not to mention they are still paying debt from the first battle in 2016.

Even with Amie’s husband Tim continuing to work overtime, that income will no longer be enough to provide for their family once Amie starts treatment. Before this, Tim relied on overtime to make ends meet. Now that Amie has been sick and in pain, Tim has been missing work and so many hours. He’s been needed at home so much more to help with Amie’s care, taking care of the children, household, and rides to and from appointments. This financial burden is too demanding for Amie and Tim to handle without our help. We need to help alleviate this intensifying financial mess and stress that is only going to keep getting worse. Donating will help Amie and Tim immensely. Again, your contributions will go directly towards assisting Amie and her young family with basic living expenses, groceries, prescription costs, deductibles, uninsured medical expenses, co-pays, and other needs directly related to her care.

Amie’s famous line is always saying she doesn’t want to “burden” any of her family or friends. Even after her first diagnosis, she has never asked for ANY financial help and has SUFFERED IN SILENCE.

We will not let her stubbornness stop us from reaching out for help this time around! We ask to please help this mother, daughter, our sister, and wife fight this aggressive illness. Being related to someone who has Stage 4 cancer, we feel absolutely helpless by not being able to take this pain away from our loved one who is suffering. One way we can help is by trying to alleviate the stress of financial burdens.

Please consider helping Amie and her family. Cancer is more than enough pain and suffering that anyone should have to bear. Let’s please help make this the least painful as possible for her.
