We're raising money for the students of Amie Academy (Sierra Leone). Lumpa, Waterloo is one of the poorest villages in one of the poorest countries in the world. More than 60% of the population lives in poverty, only 40% of adults can read. More than 50 years ago, our founder sold sugar to pay tuition for high school. She travelled more than 40 miles away from home, without proper transportation, to attend school. She persevered and finished at the top of her class. This at a time when high school education for girls was considered a luxury. More importantly, she never forgot her community and the need for others to be afforded the same opportunities. Our founder sponsored children and paid their tuition yet they still had to travel miles away from home for a quality education. In October 2016, she broke ground on a school in her village of Lumpa - Amie Academy - named after her mother, who believed that all children, regardless of gender, deserved to be educated. On October 5, 2020, the school opened. We were prepared to register 75 children yet the need was too great. We're proud to educate 108 children in this our opening year! Now, we want to ensure EVERY child stays in school and tuition is not a barrier. Our goal is to make Amie Academy a tuition-free school.
Amie Academy Foundation is a non-profit organization in the USA. Your donation makes a tremendous impact and truly, no amount is too small. Every penny donated goes into the scholarship fund, the goal is to give every child a scholarship to attend Amie Academy. $200 pays a child's tuition for one year. Each dollar given is carefully spent to meet the needs of children. Please help us fulfill our promise to the children and families of Lumpa.
