As many of you know, Ami has just achieved something incredible. She has officially earned her Master’s degree in Conservation, becoming the first person in her family to obtain a Master’s degree.
We have all watched her pour thousands of hours into her studies, fueled by a relentless passion for the natural world. Now, to celebrate this massive milestone, I want to give her a graduation gift that matches her ambition—but I need your help to make it happen.
The Mission: Not Just a Vacation We aren't sending Ami to sit by a pool. We are sending her to the Azores Archipelago in Portugal, one of the most important marine sanctuaries on the planet.
She will be joining a specialized research expedition during the peak spring migration. Instead of a standard tour, this experience is designed for conservation professionals. Ami will be:
- Working alongside marine biologists to track Blue and Fin whales.
- Contributing to vital research by collecting photo-ID data and acoustic recordings of Sperm whales.
- Visiting the historical Vigias (lookout towers) to learn how the local economy transitioned from whaling to conservation.
This trip is the perfect bridge between her academic success and her future career in conservation. It is a chance for her to see the species she has studied in the classroom thriving in the wild.
The Goal We are aiming to raise roughly $4000 to cover the costs of this once-in-a-lifetime expedition.
Here is where the funds will go:
- The Expedition Fee: Secures her spot on a research vessel with expert biologists.
- Travel & Logistics: Round-trip flights to the middle of the Atlantic (Horta, Faial) and inter-island ferries.
- Field Equipment: Essential gear for ocean work (technical waterproofs, boots, and optics).
Why Support This? Ami has worked incredibly hard to break barriers and earn this degree. This trip is more than a celebration; it is an investment in her future as a scientist and guardian of our planet.
Any contribution, no matter the size, gets her one mile closer to the whales. If you can’t donate, please share this page with others who know how hard Ami has worked to get here.
Thank you for helping us send off our favorite conservationist in style!
