Hi, My name is Alex and I'm currently a Senior at Marin Catholic in San Anselmo, CA.

 

I was fortunate to be diagnosed early in elementary school with learning differences and received the help I needed to turn my differences into learning strengths, which is a continuous journey.

 

I am able to relate "first hand" as to the difference "help" can make, particularly for those kids that really want to learn! Help may take many forms: a student walking a great distance to and from school because he/she cannot afford transport; kids that have no access to writing instruments and paper; a calculator for algebra, or a compass and protractor to learn geometry; access to a hearing device; access to a specialist that can diagnose auditory processing issues; the ability to afford a warm meal; access to tutors to learn how to turn their learning differences into strengths; or access to a counselor or psychologist that can help the child learn how to advocate for their deserved learning accommodations. These are all things that I have experienced or observed first hand.

What I do know is that with a helping hand, smart and challenged kids can become superstars. Think about our world without these people who succeeded in spite of their learning differences: Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Bill Gates, Ludwig v Beethoven, Pablo Picasso, Tom Brady, Michael Phelps, John Lennon, Winston Churchill, Benjamin Franklin, Walt Disney, Gen. George Patton, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Hans Christian Anderson, Charles Darwin, Wolfgang Mozart, Sir Isaac Newton, Louis Pasteur, Harriet Tubman, Mark Twain, Saint Margaret of Città di Castello, Nelson Mandela, and George Washington.

100% of your generous donations (aside from the required gofundme and bank transaction costs) will go directly towards giving. As a show of my commitment, I have pledged 25% of my personal savings to this cause. I will also be directly involved in performing the diligence and selection of the deserving students and/or related recipients (schools, religious and charitable organizations, NGOs, and individual recipients), and most important monitoring and measuring the impact the assistance has on the students (my gofundme "News and Views" link).
