In February 2024, our dear friends Iain and Umutesi received the devastating news that their beautiful daughter, Iona, had been diagnosed with leukaemia at just six years old.

For more than two years they displayed incredible strength, love, and resilience to support Iona through her treatment, whilst doing everything in their power to ensure there was as little impact as possible on her younger sister, Isla.

After Iona’s initial diagnosis, many of you generously donated to help Iain and Umutesi make their home a safe and comfortable place for her - something that meant so much to them - and they have drawn tremendous strength from the prayers, support and well-wishes of their friends and family thoughout this difficult journey.

On the 7th April 2026, Iona passed away peacefully in the paediatric intensive care unit of the Children’s Hospital in Glasgow, while embraced by her mummy and daddy.

No words can convey the heartbreak her parents are experiencing. Their lives have been forever changed, and they now face the unimaginable task of saying goodbye to their precious daughter.

We are conscious that many people have asked how they can help the family at this difficult time. We have decided to set up this page to allow people to make a direct contribution to alleviating some of the burden the family is facing.

Your donations will go towards:

• Providing financial support so Iain and Umutesi can focus on grieving without added stress

• Supporting the family in the weeks and months ahead

If funds allow, any remaining money will go towards giving the family, including Iona’s little sister, Isla (5), the chance to spend some time together on a much-needed break.

We know many of you have already given so generously, and we cannot thank you enough. Your kindness has already made a real difference to the family.
