Hi, my name is Alina Sokalski, and I'm a 17-year-old high schooler in Catonsville, Maryland. I've loved music for as long as I can remember, and my love for it is stronger than ever. I've been playing the clarinet since I was in the 5th grade. I've always been passionate about it ever since I started.
After three years of being postponed due to covid, my high school once again has the honor of participating in the American Music Abroad program. Two hundred students from various states are picked to go on a 3-week tour of Europe to play concerts in 5 countries. I've wanted to go since I heard of this trip mentioned in the 8th grade. They are reinstating the program and trip for Summer 2023, and now that it's back, I'd love to take the opportunity to attend.
This trip would be an excellent experience for me both musically and culturally. I will have the opportunity to perform for the citizens of France, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany in historically rich venues, such as the church where Sebastian Bach played the organ over 300 years ago. When not playing music or rehearsing, we will learn about the beautiful culture, history and sights these countries offer.
The $5600 I'm raising covers airfare, meals, transportation with the other musicians, and housing accommodations in all five countries.
This program is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that most wouldn't be able to do, and I am asking for your support so I can attend this trip. I've never been the best with words, but if you'd find it within the kindness of your heart to donate to me being able to do this, I'd be eternally grateful. I don't know if I'd ever be able to do something like this again, so no matter what's given, I'm thankful that someone cared enough to want me to be able to go. Thank you for reading, and please consider donating; it means more than you could ever imagine :)
