American Fizz: Supporting American Winemakers

My name is Margot , and I'm embarking on a new adventure building a small wine shop called American Fizz, focused on wines made in America. The local foods movement has exploded in popularity in recent years, and for good reason. Supporting your local food growers and makers, as well as small businesses, is important for economic, environmental, and community reasons—so why don't we support our local winemakers on the same scale?
There are over 11 thousand wineries in the United States today, and my mission is to support those dedicated wine and cider makers and get the word out about the excellent products coming out of our local communities. American Fizz will be a two-year pop-up, stocking wines and ciders, made with minimal intervention in mind, from the United States, Canada, and South America. There will also be a small local foods producer section. Inventory will focus on range, representation, affordability, education, and joy—joy is an incredibly important piece of my puzzle. It will open this summer, 2021, in Portland, Maine and start with wine classes and a wine club I can't wait to set up.
I'm so grateful for any financial support folks can offer me as I build my small business on my own. I'm looking to raise $20,000 by August. These funds will be used to pay for my legal and licensing fees, insurance costs, my accountant fees, and start up costs, including paint, racks, storage, the point of sale system, etc. It will also help pay for my first big wine purchase from our local wine distributors, allowing me to get these wines on the shelves.
I know that American Fizz can bring our local wines into the forefront of the growing wine conversation, starting at your dinner table, your campground, your backyard get-together. It'll be a space that is unpretentious, that will make you feel welcome, where you can come and ask questions, feel cared for, and be encouraged to enjoy wine how you'd like to.
