Hello!

My name is Carmen Bartolome, I am a filmmaker from Guatemala and I need your help to raise money for my new short film "American Dream" which follows the story of Guadalupe Santos, or "Lupe", an undocumented worker, mother of two, who is trying to survive on an underpaid America.

Immigrants are the foundation of the US. Now more than ever, our culture needs to understand what it means to be an illegal immigrant. Most immigrants are being criminalized for wanting a better future, not just for themselves, but for their whole family.

I was born in a Latin country and I have grown up watching this hard working culture around me. I feel obligated to give a voice to the people who should not be considered criminals for dreaming of a better life.

Most of the time these people are underpaid or taken advantage of since they are so vulnerable for being undocumented. I believe they are not here to "steal jobs", they are simply taking any chance that gets them closer to their dream, and most of the time, without complaining.

My goal with this short film is to defy the stereotypes placed on immigrants.
