Amelia's TBI Recovery Fundraiser

Donation protected
On the morning of May 6th, 2022, Amelia, our 28-year-old daughter, was on her way to work, riding a motorized scooter, when the unexpected happened. A hit-and-run cargo van driver came beside her and dragged her by her head from the passenger side mirror, causing her to fall forward on her right frontal lobe. Thankfully, a pedestrian found her. Paramedics rushed her to UCLA Level 1 Trauma Center, and she went into surgery. Sadly, Amelia suffered severe traumatic brain injuries where she remained in an induced coma and on a ventilator for a month following the accident.

Over the past several months surgeons have performed multiple brain surgeries, including removing half of her skull to reduce intracranial pressure and performing a tracheostomy for breathing which have saved her life. Initially, we had little hope that she would survive this atrocity, but with her care at the #1 hospital in California, her fighting spirit, and lots of prayers, Amelia pulled through. She is following commands and can move her head to say yes/no. Amelia is breathing on her own and shows emotions through her eyes, eyebrow movements, grimaces, smiles and kicking her legs.

Although Amelia is being cared for by the best doctors, nurses, and specialists, along with her loving family's support, she has a long road to recovery. Last month, she had 2 more surgical procedures and has been moved to a rehabilitation facility. This is where a team of health professionals with experience and training in brain injury work gives her 3-6 hours/day of physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as psychiatric care and social support.

Amelia's neurosurgeons have told us Amelia's rehabilitation will be at least a year, and she may never leave the wheelchair. But she is strong, and she’s a fighter...the doctors all see her drive, and we are not ruling out miracles! But Amelia needs your help and support. This fundraiser will assist with her medical bills and ongoing rehabilitation and care. The goal is to get Amelia as close as humanly possible to return to the quality of life she once had.

We, Amelia's family, dad Ron Goodman, mom Sandra Crawford-Goodman, brothers Anthony, Adam, and sister Lovisa, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your continued love and prayers for our precious Amelia.
