Amelia's Radioactive Therapy
Donation protected
Dear Friends, Family, and Animal Lovers -
We're reaching out to you today with heavy hearts and a fervent plea for assistance. Our beloved 13-year-old tabby cat, Amelia, is facing a life-threatening medical condition: hyperthyroidism. The best hope for her to live a long, happy life is through radioactive iodine treatment, but the cost is beyond our means. My son is helping as much as he can while also paying student loans. We are humbly asking for your support to raise $2,500 to give her a fighting chance for a cure.
Meet Our Benevolent Feline Overlady:
Amelia is more than just a cat; she's been a cherished member of our family since June 2010. Her playful antics, warm purrs, and endless affection have brought immeasurable joy to our lives. When my mom passed away in 2019, she was my rock, along with the dog (Artemis). I couldn't trust myself to break in front of people, but Amelia would curl up on me and just purr while I cried, raged, or sat numbly until I could rejoin the land of the living. I can't express how much I love this cat. However, her health has taken a devastating turn as she battles hyperthyroidism, a condition that's robbing her of her vitality. Her coat is kind of dull and greasy right now and she has lost so much weight -- she's down to 5.3 pounds!
The Urgency of Treatment:
Hyperthyroidism is a severe and life-threatening condition for cats. Left untreated, it can lead to severe complications, including heart disease, kidney problems, blindness, and eventually death. Amelia is suffering, and it's heartbreaking to watch her decline day by day.
The Solution: Radioactive Iodine Treatment (I-131):
Radioactive iodine treatment is the gold standard for hyperthyroidism in cats. It offers a high success rate with minimal side effects and the potential for a complete cure. This treatment will not only save Amelia's life but also restore her quality of life, allowing her to enjoy her golden years pain-free.
The Financial Burden:
While we're willing to do everything in our power to save Amelia, the cost of this treatment is a significant hurdle for us. The total estimated cost, including diagnostic tests and post-treatment care, is $2,500. Unfortunately, this is an expense that is going to be devastating for me.
How You Can Help:
We're turning to our friends, family, and fellow animal lovers for assistance. Your generosity can make all the difference for Amelia. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us closer to our goal. Here's how you can help:
Donate: Even a small contribution can add up and make a significant impact. Every dollar brings us one step closer to giving Amelia the treatment she desperately needs.
Share: Please share this fundraiser with your network, whether through social media, email, or word of mouth. The more people who know about Amelia's situation, the greater the chance of reaching our goal.
Encourage Others: If you can't donate personally, please encourage others to contribute. Your voice can inspire others to help save Amelia.
Our Promise:
We understand that times are tough for many, and any support you can provide means the world to us. We promise to keep you updated on Amelia's progress throughout her treatment journey. Your kindness will not be forgotten, and Amelia will be forever grateful for the chance to live a happy, healthy life.
Conclusion:
We are immensely grateful for your support and kindness during this challenging time. Amelia has brought so much love and joy into our lives, and with your help, we can ensure she enjoys many more years of happiness. On average, cats live another 5 - 6 years after I-131 and the average age at diagnosis is 12 to 13 years old. My baby could have another 5+ years if we can just cure her. Please consider donating and sharing her story. Together, we can make a life-saving difference for our beloved tabby.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a part of Amelia's journey to recovery.
With love and gratitude,
Susan, Jake, Amelia, and Artemis
