Amelia's endoscopic cranial neurosurgery

Hola amigos/as / Hi friends (*an English version below*),

Muchas gracias!!
Si desean compartir, nos ayudaría mucho!!

Our newborn baby girl Amelia has been diagnosed with craniosynostosis - one of her skull sutures (sagittal) has fused too early and needs urgent neurosurgery to correct it, thus allowing her brain room to grow.

Left untreated, this restriction can put pressure on other parts of her skull and brain, resulting in several other serious complications that are usually permanent.

Currently, in New Zealand, only cranial vault remodelling and spring-assisted surgeries are offered, which are good but very invasive procedures involving the removal and reassembly of her skull, plus a follow-up surgery (to remove springs). Considerable blood transfusions are also required for this treatment, and they can be long surgeries.

In the United States (Texas, El Paso), an incredibly better option called endoscopic surgery is available, which is much less invasive (small incision at the affected site only) and is followed by helmet therapy. It is a well-researched surgery that has been available for over 20 years and will reduce her risks of repeated invasive surgeries in the future. This option reduces most of the risks of open skull surgeries.

Naturally, we would love to make this surgery for our wee Amelia if possible. However, we are running against the clock as there is a small time window when the endoscopic surgery can be done for Amelia.

Financially, it is one of those unexpected bills you are unprepared for and considerably out of grasp. So we are reaching out for assistance to try to make this work. It is a lot, but with help, we might have a chance.

Every little bit helps, so we appreciate any support we can get financially.

Thank you so much!!
