Amelia takes on Leukaemia
Donation protected
Hi everyone
A few weeks ago our Colleague and my dear friend, DS Gemma Carroll, who many of you will know, was told that her little girl Amelia, who is eleven, has Leukaemia.
It all began with a rash on her legs, red blotches that were mistaken for an allergy.
Gemma wasn't happy with what she was told at the pharmacy (for those of you who know her, this will come as no surprise) and she contacted 111 where bloods were arranged at the George Elliott Hospital, from there Gemma's life changed in the worst way.
She was told later that night to take Amelia directly to Birmingham children's hospital where Amelia underwent many tests before being transferred to Leicester Royal for Chemotherapy to begin.
Amelia is a little firecracker, she is very determined and gets her feisty personality from her mother. Prior to starting her treatment she made the brave decision to shave her head so that she can donate all of her beautiful auburn hair to children who are ready for their wigs, she isn't a girl to feel sorry for, she's a force and plans to absolutely beat Cancer on her own terms.
As it stands Gemma spent the first few weeks travelling to and from Birmingham, paying for parking and food every day. They are now in Leicester and paying monthly for parking, which is a hit she didn't need.
Gemma also has a little boy called Ethan, who absolutely adores her and is struggling to understand what is happening in his little world. Gemma is doing her best to travel between her children and try to keep things as normal as possible.
Gemma is a proud woman, she's fiercely independent and isn't one to ask for help but, with her permission, I'm just trying to lighten the load in some small way and I know there's a lot of you who just want to help in any way possible and have already asked about a collection.
If you can help out with any amount then I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks to everyone who has already been helping in any way they can, Gemma appreciates it xx
