Good day everyone. My name is Vikey Rasheed, from Triumph on the East Coast of Demerara. I am reaching out with a humble heart because my daughter, Ameera Rasheed, has been battling life-threatening medical challenges since the day she was born.

Ameera was delivered on January 17th, 2022 by C-section at the Georgetown Public Hospital. From the moment she entered this world, she has been fighting to survive. She was born with respiratory failure and required ventilator support. After a month she was discharged, but her struggles were only beginning.

At three months old, Ameera was rushed back to the emergency room. Doctors diagnosed her with epilepsy, and later with cerebral palsy. A few months later she fell critically ill again, this time with meningitis.

In the following year, doctors confirmed multiple long-term neurological conditions:

• Microcephaly

• Epilepsy

• Cerebral palsy

• History of meningitis

Despite everything, Ameera continues to smile and bring love to everyone around her.

During a recent violent seizure, Ameera’s fragile body could not withstand the strain — her leg was fractured. Doctors now urgently need to perform an MRI to understand what is happening in her brain and guide her treatment.

Without it, the doctors cannot properly treat her or prevent further seizures, fractures, and neurological damage.

I have had to close my business due to constant hospital visits. With no steady income, it has become impossible to keep up with Ameera’s medical needs.

Ameera requires:

• 24-hour air conditioning, because overheating triggers seizures

• Daily medications

• Special transport to the hospital

• A safe environment to recover from her fractured leg

Even electricity has become hard to maintain.

As a parent, it breaks my heart to see her suffer. I am doing all I can, but I cannot provide everything she needs alone. I am humbly asking the public to help give Ameera a fighting chance.
