Hi, My name is Heather, and I'm fundraising for my friend and coworker Amber Combee.
Let me take a minute to describe this beautiful soul to those who don't know who Amber is. Amber is the front desk receptionist at Summers Elementary School. She comes to school with a smile that lights up the world daily. Amber is positive, loving, humble, and caring to every person or animal she encounters. No matter the situation that life gives her, she takes it on with a positive attitude and sees the beauty in life's most minor details. She has previously overcome health issues, including diabetes and cervical cancer, last year. This loving soul remained humbled, thankful, strong, and positive throughout her health trials.
Two weeks ago, life gave Amber her most challenging situation yet. Random bruises and fatigued led to Amber receiving a check-up from the doctor. On November 19, 2022, Amber was officially diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia (APL). Amber was admitted into UF Shands in Gainesville, Florida on that day, and there she has remained. Amber was not able to start chemotherapy like with other cancers. Her team of doctors recommended that her only and best option is daily arsenic treatments. Unfortunately, Amber has suffered some setbacks while in the hospital. Her liver isn't functioning as well as the doctor's would like; she still requires blood transfusions and platelets, is still neutropenic, and has a high risk for bleeding. Then she discovered that her treatment plan would have to change again because her heart QT was slower than it should be. Through everything Amber, her husband Jared, and her family is going through....Amber responds, "Every day I get to wake up is a gift!!! God has been so good to me and has kept me going thus far! I have made peace with whatever comes next, but I am thankful and grateful to have my husband, three daughters, family, and friends who have stood behind me. This whole situation has been a scary but beautiful chapter, and I know it isn't finished yet!"
Anyone blessed to know Amber knows why this GoFundMe page is significant. This ongoing Leukemia fight has forced Amber to miss much time at work. Amber's husband, Jared, has been by her side as much as possible to help with daily tasks and treatments. Amber will remain in the hospital for at least another three to four weeks before she is released. Once released, Amber will still need to limit her public contact due too immunocompromised. Over the next eight months or more, Amber will continue with outpatient care as much as possible, where she will need to drive to Gainesville daily for chemo treatments.
Half of the funds collected through this GoFundMe page will go towards Amber's medical bills. The other half of the funds collected will go towards Amber's gas expenses and housing bills since she has to miss enough time at work which has significantly affected her paycheck during this trying time. Anything donated is greatly appreciated by Amber, Jared, and their daughters. If you cannot donate funds, please pray for dear Amber and her family. Thank you!!!!
