On October 24th, 2024, Amber received devastating news. She was diagnosed with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma and Ductal Carcinoma in Situ. She is ER+ PR+ HER2-, meaning the cancer is fed by her hormones. On January 6th, she had a double mastectomy with expander placement. The recovery time for this will be AT LEAST 6 weeks. This will be a huge financial hit to their family, as she won’t have PTO to cover the time

off. During this time, at least for the first four weeks, she will have some intense restrictions where she can’t do anything repetitive, can’t lift her elbows above her shoulders, etc. As a mom

of three very active kids who are very involved in sports and extra curricular, this adds even more stress. Once drains are removed, she’ll be making weekly trips to OSU for drain maintenance and expander fills. About 2 weeks after surgery, she will meet with a medical oncologist to talk further treatment (depending on the pathology results) and begin the process of shutting down her ovaries. Once the process is complete, she will be on hormone blockers for 10 years and will be placed into medically induced menopause.
