My daughter Amber has type 1 diabetes. She was diagnosed in 2003. She was 11 years old. Amber is 29 now and has fought this disease most of her life. Around 3 months ago she was hospitalized with pneumonia. Shortly afterwards she started complaining about her vision changing. Some days were better than others. It went from one extreme to another very quick. She went to an optometrist and he referred her out as soon as possible. On April 14, 2021 she saw a specialist and he confirmed what the first Doctor found. She has a significant amount of bleeding and leakage in the right eye and needs surgery SOON or she will be blind within months. She was also told the symptoms are presenting in the left eye as well. This a complication called diabetic retinopathy.
Amber and her Granddaddy Amber does not have medical insurance. She has always worked but recently hasn’t been able to. She can’t see to drive or write.
This disease is debilitating and life altering with a huge financial burden. She is needing laser treatments every five weeks which are $900.00 each time. The eye surgery is $5,500.00, not including the hospital stay. We all know the importance of seeing in life. Please help my daughter see how bright the world can be and give her hope for the future.
