Amber's Bday Gift: Contribution to the House Fund

Instead of asking my friends to spend $1000s on a trip or attend a bad bish bday dinner and antics (all of which I very much love), I'm asking for a different kind of support and showcasing of love, if you're able. A contribution to my house.

after living in The Netherlands for 8 years, it was legit undeniable the way living abroad had shaped my way of seeing the world. I decided to buy a house and started a renovation to make it two houses. The vision was to have one house for me and one house to host Black Americans! This would be a place where they can use my connection to the community and explore living outside the US with the safety of community and knowing it’s a trial period - up to 3 months.

Got a contractor, set the vision — and the contractor intentionally misused my funds & the funds of 8 other people building our houses wrong to steal the money. He’s filed bankruptcy and we’re all just stuck to figure out the way forward.

I’m committed to finishing this but it is HARD AF dolo. So I’m asking my community to contribute to the funds so I can finish this damn house and start building a pipeline for us to explore living abroad!

Right after my bday I head to Amsterdam/Rotterdam for house admin with builders and then locking in for a good chunk of September on the future of my house. I'm committed to fighting to save it after all the ups and downs (legal battles, Dutch bureacracy, that EOP neighbor, my original contractor's theft and some of my own burnout).

I have a great team now, but what I've learned in construction (because at this point I'm a lowkey developer) is you don't know what this fully looks like until you're in it. This is certainly the biggest financial undertaking I have on my plate (adulthood to the max).

Baby has windows to buy, piping to fix, lawyer fees to pay, project manager to sign and more. So instead of an in-person activity, if you're able, I would absolutely love a meaningful contribution to the "save the house" fund. A boost to the efforts.

My dream is to one day host all my loves and share my overseas life with you so you can build your own connection to a world that's truly shaped me -- and if I can shake it to have it be by saving this house, best believe I willllll!
