Hi everyone,
My name is Nikki (Nicolette), and I am organizing this fundraiser for my little sister Amber, because she is generally a very private person, and would never ask for help like this herself or post anything publicly that she’s going through privately.
But this fight cannot stay private.
My sister, Amber has been diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, an invasive, aggressive form of the disease. She has had to undergo a double mastectomy in February and currently preparing for chemotherapy and radiation. Her every day consists of crippling anxiety and fear of the unknown.
She has had nurses and therapists at home to help with drain tube management and navigation of what’s to come, as well as many many doctors appointments each week. Sometimes multiple per day.
She is so grateful for the team of Doctors that she has and they truly do their best to ease her fear through this journey.
Her husband, Nathan, is her rock.
I couldn’t be more proud to call him my brother in law, and praise him for jumping head first right into this battle he would call “theirs”, because there’s no way she will spend a single day fighting alone.
She is surrounded by a family that is here supporting her, but unfortunately with all that she’s going through, she is no longer able to work, and her husband is taking on the financial burden that is just too much for one person to try to juggle along with every day living expenses.
Even with the hurdle of her double mastectomy completed, there are critical treatments and supportive therapies that continue to consume her life. These treatments are meant not only to help stop the cancer from progressing or metastasizing, but also to support Ambers body, strength, and overall health while she undergoes treatment.
Amber is the kind of person who has always tried to do everything on her own. She never asks for help and often feels guilty even needing it. I took this step on her behalf because I want her to know that she does not have to choose between her health, her future, and financial fear. She deserves to be able to pursue every avenue that could help her heal without the added burden of stress, or long-term emotional trauma around finances. There’s enough long-term trauma that comes with this journey.
Amber just deserves to fight, heal, and remain present for her children, grandchildren and everyone who loves her.
All funds raised will go directly toward Ambers medical expenses, supportive care, household expenses and regular bills that simply don’t stop coming in just because she’s fighting for her life (bills are bills).
