Amber & Mom's Urgent Need After Fire

Hi everyone. My name is Amber. On March 28th, my and my mom's apartment building caught on fire. We woke up to our phone alarms and the apartment smelling of smoke and thought it was elsewhere. We discovered the fire was outside below the back staircase. We were able to evacuate safely with our cat as were the other tenants. Overall, most of our possessions should be okay aside from a bit of smoke damage.

After the firefighters came, they discovered it seemed to be an electrical fire which will take thousands of dollars and weeks of time for the landlord to repair, if he is able to. The electricity to the buiding is off and we are not able to stay there anymore.

Our landlord was thankfully able to give us our rent and deposit back. We have talked with Red Cross who were able to get us into a hotel for the weekend. We are still in a really tight spot and not sure on where to go from here after Monday. We are currently looking at apartments but given the short timeframe we have to find a place and have the money, it is proving to be difficult.

I am making this campaign to help my mom get back on our feet. I am asking for help primarily with a deposit and first month of rent. Other uses for funds may be a temporary hotel stay (at $90/night), moving expenses and boarding our cat while searching for a home.

The place we previously stayed was the cheapest (at $495) we had ever been able to stay at. Most apartments are twice as much which is a struggle for me to pay.
