Amber & Doone's Healing Fund

ON BEHALF OF JIM GOHERY & FAMILY,

Our dearest daughter, friend, family member, sister, aunt, wife, and amazing mother Amber Crowley and her oldest son Doone (11 yrs) were involved in a serious car accident on the afternoon of Tuesday, December 6th whilst leaving Carbondale on 133 headed toward their home in Marble.

Amber, Doone, and their two dogs Pluto & Zena were all in the car. Their car went off the road, caught air, tumbling, before coming to a complete hault. Doone pinned in the car, looked to his mom asking if he would ever see his younger brother Seamus again.  Familiar voices, Carbondale Fire Department & emergency vehicles were immediately on the scene where Amber & Doone were cut out of the vehicle and rushed to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs with suspected critical injuries. Amber's husband Jim Gohery and youngest son Seamus were immediately notified and rushed unknowingly to the hospital. Both dogs ( in shock & bruised) were picked up by a good samaritan, who held them until a family member could pick them up. A true miracle that Amber, Doone, and both dogs survived the crash.

Due to the crash, Amber was left with a shattered t-12 vertebrae. Unable to air lift her to Grand Junction due to weather, doctors decided to do emergency surgery to prevent floating bone from doing any damage to nerves or spinal cord.  After a 6 hour surgery replacing a vertebrae in Amber's lower back,  Doone was up next. Doone snapped his femur and broke his shoulder on his right side. Surgeon's were able to align his shoulder bones and insert a plate in his femur which will require a follow-up surgery in one year.

On behalf of Jim, Seamus, Amber & Doone ...and as a family, community, and just one person to another, we are all at a loss of words for how lucky we are this was not a tragic accident. However, this will be an uphill battle, and recovery time is uncertain. Doone is one strong boy, and doctor's are confident he will make a full recovery. Amber is also showing signs of a strong recovery, with strong movement in her feet & limbs. Their strength is keeping Jim. Seamus, and the whole family confident in a full reovery for both.

The days & months ahead will require alot of change for the family. The whole family remains in the hospital. Jim is still on crutches from a past foot surgery, and will be non-weight bearing for the next two weeks. Doone will be in a wheel-chair for awhile where he will learn to face the challenges of having little to no movement on the right side.  Amber will be in a back brace and depending on progress will possibly be sent to a rehabilitation center after being released from hospital. The whole family will be unable to move back to Marble for quite some time so we are working on relocating them somewhere locally where we can create a comfy environment on the first floor for Amber and Doone to recover properly.

There are many uncertainties ahead, and questions that have yet to be answered. The family is so appreciative of the flood of phone calls and text messages from near and far expressing concern and love for all four of them. So the question remains, "what can we do for Amber, Jim, Doone, Seamus and the pups to help them in this crazy time..?"  As a family, community, friends from near and far lets all get together to aid them in whatever lays ahead. There is no donation that is too small, and if unable to give a donation...positive energy and cards are welcome as well. We want to keep the healing energy high for the whole family as we dive into the craziness of the holidays and days, weeks, and months ahead.

Thankyou in advance for your positive thoughts and concerns, on behalf of the family I know it's  greatly appreciated.  For.."we don't heal in isolation, but in community."
