On December 1, my life changed in an instant. I was riding my e-bike when I was struck by an SUV traveling over 55 miles per hour. The impact was devastating—I was life flighted to Kissimmee, where a team of trauma doctors worked tirelessly to save me. I spent the first five days in a medically induced coma, on a breathing machine, while surgeons operated to stop internal bleeding and repair my organs.
The injuries I sustained were extensive: four broken ribs, three fractured vertebrae, a broken collarbone, wrist, and thumb, severe road rash covering my body, a brain bleed with staples to close a scalp laceration, throat damage, a collapsed lung, fluid around my lungs, abdomen, and heart, a lacerated spleen (which was removed), lacerated liver and kidney, torn diaphragm, and multiple abdominal hematomas. I now walk with a spinal brace and cane as I continue to heal.
I have applied for disability and SSI, but the process could take up to a year. Without insurance, I need weekly lab visits and follow-up care, and my immune system is severely compromised. In just two months, I've battled two serious infections requiring strong IV antibiotics. The medical costs and co-pays have drained my family, and I am unable to work. This has placed a heavy burden on my two sons, mother, sister, and best friend.
I hesitated to ask for help because of pride, but my grandmother always said that God doesn't like pride. I am humbly asking for any assistance whatsoever. Anything you can give will help and is deeply appreciated.
