Amazing Grace: The Making Of A Tradition

Hi Everyone!

My name is Mary Kreider Megna and I am a 1984 graduate of the music department at Indiana University of Pennsylvania and 1981 alumna of the IUP Marching Band. 

I have a goal to produce a film that tells the story of the start of “Amazing Grace” at IUP and the impact over the years on the performers, the students in the stands and anyone within ear’s reach of the music. 

The long term effect of this incredible arrangement has been extensive throughout the years.  It has been requested for weddings, funerals, band competitions and numerous other events, all with an emotional attachment to IUP.   It is a forty-year tradition of the IUP Marching band and is their signature piece.  Because of its impact, it has provided for many a sense of empowerment throughout their lives and a reference for what is possible. 

The cost for script writing, digitizing pictures, videos and films, interviews and editing will be extensive.  Therefore support and donations are needed.  None of the money will go towards profit for anyone involved.  The finished product will be donated to the IUP Archives as well as submitted to film festivals for reviews.  The hope is for IUP to value the film as an historical document and use it for purposes that will benefit the development of the University and the Music Department. 

Any amount donated will be appreciated.  All donations of $30.00 and over will receive a free DVD of the film upon its completion.  Any amount over the goal or unused for the film will be donated to the IUP Marching Band.
