As our world slowly opens up to a much-awaited post-pandemic life, our beloved MCDS teacher, Anne Mayes, has been diagnosed with stage 4A lung cancer. Last week, Anne has courageously headed into her first chemotherapy treatment with the best hope to hold it steady for some time. Although her extended families are in St. Louis, she will be receiving treatments mostly at UCSF. Anne, her husband, Jeremy, and their son Ryan (13) are in a tough fight this summer.
We, the MCDS families, are utterly heartbroken and devastated by this news. For the entire 2020-21 school year, Anne went beyond her call of duty not only to teach but to support, connect, and bring joy to our children via a very challenging teaching format. We are grateful for the dedication and love with which she teaches and the life-long impression she has made on our children.
The families of MCDS have created this page to show support for Anne and her family. Please feel free to contribute in any way - donate funds or post a message of support - we welcome them all. The fund is designed to help with non-insurance covered care that will likely involve a home nurse and non-traditional treatments to supplement her comfort and care. Together we can show Anne that even though there may not be a cure for cancer (yet), we can deliver the antidote of love, compassion, and community.
Thank you so much for your heartfelt support!
